Through my research on John Henry Newman, and in respect to the Oxford Movement, of which Newman was a key leader, I found it to be very interesting how the changes that he and his colleagues sought to make within the Church of England during that time period, were very similar to the reforms that were addressed by the Second Vatican Council years later...

The changes made to church beautification, communal celebration, with the singing of hymns, and a heightened sense of religious community resembled the reform of the Liturgy seen in The Second Vatican Council, as well as the decreased reliance on a hierarchal system within the church. I was also impressed by the fact that Newman was willing to spend the better part of his life trying to reform the Church of England, and a religion that he later converted from in the face of opposition and harsh criticism...
